Odds And Ends

A quick demo for Rewired which grew a bit larger than expected. Thanks to El Blanco for the catchy oldskool soundtrack that motivated me. This demo placed 1st out of 4 at the Rewired 2009 democompo.

Fish Light (nori mix)

Fish Light (nori mix) el blanco [fulcrum] about 3:50

Seven's recent work on pulling together assets for a demo got me motivated. So I started off by writing a "radio edit" short version of Fish Light since the original is far too long for the demo we had in mind.

We ended up not using this one for the demo, but it was a good exercise in trying to abbreviate my often long song ideas.

I personally prefer the original, since the buildup to the end is really important to setting the tone for the ending. But this ain't bad.

That Connection Feeling 3:12

I set out to write a tune without the aid of drums or percussion (which I usually use with a bit too much gusto to cover up inadequacies in my song writing). I ended up with this little semi-minimalist tune.

I got this far with it pretty quickly, but when I set out to try to expand upon it I always ended up hitting a brick wall. As I listened and listened and listened to the tune to figure out how to approach it again, I realized that my head was always ending up a good place after listening to this tune.

I decided to leave it alon

First Album by Ranger Rick (a.k.a. Raccoon Fink) Available Tomorrow

Submitted by RangerRick on Mon, 2008-05-19 14:28.

My first album, titled "Finally", will be released tomorrow!

It's been a long time coming, I've been meaning to do this for quite some time now. All of the tracks on the album have been generally available from me (as "Ranger Rick") in the past, but I spent 2 solid months cleaning them up, in some case making minor changes to the songs, and all cases cleaning up and re-mastering them.

The album will be available on Amazon MP3, iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster, and a host of other services. You can purchase it, as well as the single, "Pointillize," at Amazon.com, or you can check out my profile at last.fm for full-length previews of the tracks.

Winter Blooms

Another exploration into the world of electronica. I think I'm getting a little bit better, but I have a few interesting works in progress as well.

Created entirely within MadTracker 2.

Picky 128 byte DOS-intro

Submitted by Seven on Mon, 2008-05-05 21:13.

This tiny intro was a fun project to really test my byte-hunting skills again. Making the Versus gfx-4k was rushed due to the Breakpoint deadline, so it wasn't very optimised, and I was curious if I could get the pickover-stalks in 128 bytes. I was pretty discouraged when I got it around 150 bytes and got stuck, but a few nights sleep, some ugly hacks and a complete disregard for speed over size saved the day.

Too bad the colors are the default (ugly) palette, but there *really* wasn't space to fix that... It runs infinitely, so press ESCAPE to stop it. It doesn't set the gfx mode back to textmode, so I suggest simply double-clicking it in Windows, instead of starting it in a dosbox.

Versus 4K executable gfx

Submitted by Seven on Sun, 2008-03-30 18:37.

Breakpoint 08 had a 4K executable gfx compo (an idea they stole from Buenzli and TUM), and I took the opportunity to get back in 4K assembler coding. Versus took 5th place out of 12, a bit lower than I had hoped for but the level of competition was amazingly high.

Phoenix Swimming

Started working with MadTracker 2 lately. Most of the stuff I've produced hasn't amounted to very much, but occasionally something comes out of it. This is exploring my electronica style again. Hope you like it.

Natural Grown Killer (Final)

Submitted by Seven on Thu, 2008-02-28 21:11.

Finally managed to finish the final, after the Newyear festivities, exams-by-proxy and some relaxation time after that.. The final version adds some effects that were planned but left out due to lack of time at the partyplace: the leafs on the plant and the raster-effect on the credits, plus various small fixes. There's still a lot of things that *could* be improved, but I'd rather spend my time on a new production :)
