Parenthood (a minor impact on creativity)
Also, a little late, but congratulations to D. Travis North (aka Coplan / Fulcrum) on the birth of his baby daughter on July 29th! His European compadres even made a demo in his honor for Buenzli.

Rewired 2008
Mini Demoparty photos and results
The “mini demoparty” (yes, that was the name), held in San Francisco on June 15th, attracted 25 visitors, including long-time scene veterans and some visitors/transplants from other countries. There were only three competition entries, and one of them was the voting form :). But the winner, Ledtro, made on an ATmega-powered a 25×25 LED display, is definitely worth checking out. There’s also a bit on Pfister’s blog. Head to the mini-demoparty website for results, attendee list (find out who had waffles!), and photo links, along with the info page humorously rewritten in past tense, and a novel idea of “unlocked” prizes depending on number of entries (in the end, GD, the organizer, decided to give them all out anyway). Let’s hope for some more productive mini parties!
NVScene compo prizes announced
The competition prizes for NVScene 2008 have been announced. For the winning demo, how does $5,000 and two GeForce cards (specific models not given yet, but we can assume high-end) sound? Not to mention what may be the largest prize ever for a 1st place 4k intro: $2,000 plus a GeForce card. The payouts extend to the top 5 entries in each compo. Finally, every ticket-holder at NVScene will receive a free academic copy of SoftImage XSI, just for registering.

Inspire 2008
NVidia CUDA Coding Contest
NVidia is holding a programming contest to take the C source of the LAME MP3 encoder and rewrite it to be as fast as possible. The catch? It must be written in CUDA, NVidia’s GPU programming language, meaning it uses the graphics processor of a GeForce 8 or 9 series card. Top prize is $5,000. The contest is open only to US and Canada residents, and ends on July 25th, 2008. For more details:
Mini Demoparty in San Francisco
There will be a mini demoparty on June 15 in the SOMA district of San Francisco. The theme for the party compo is “bowling,” and there is a single wild competition for all entries, including demos, art, music, live performances, or whatever else gets submitted. The party has limited space, so only invited sceners are asked to attend.
The party sounds like good fun, and its neat to see things like this taking place. Plus, the bowling-themed compo should produce some… interesting prods. More information is available at the party website.
Update: If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area and haven’t received an invitation yet, get in touch with gd.
NVScene Signup Mails going out
Everyone who’s signed up for NVScene should be getting a e-mail right about now.
Inside you’ll find a login and key for the backend web interface where you can submit prods and also see if you’re getting any demokits! You’re also able to confirm the mailing address for the demokits. Unfortunately signups are closed for now, though you can still enter the compos if you haven’t signed up. Remember NVision registration is still open, and the $50 deal is going through the end of the month.
Big thanks to the party organizers and Nvidia for the kits.
Remember there is still 2 months+ before the party! Let us know you’re coming, by signing the Who’s Attending list.
Hope to see you all there!
Blockparty & Outline 2008
You can also download the results and releases of the Dutch Outline party that was held last weekend. Some Atari releases are still missing because their creators are still working on a final, but these will hopefully arrive in the upcoming few weeks.
